If a country’s survival in the new world were to be graded on their ability to innovate (| ˈɪnəveɪt: make changes in something established, especially by introducing new methods, ideas, or products), the Philippines would be considered a lost cause, failed state… loser with a L.
The country has ranked well below the global average over the years on the Global Innovation Index, a laggard 74th in 2016 slipping to 73rd in 2017 out of 126 countries, an indicative pillar highlighted as the country’s strength are the Graduates in Science and Engineering, including manufacturing and construction, therefore translating to what has become our primary export: human services.
Many (and I mean few, as we have almost none) of our academics say that industries always focus research on based on their selfish agenda and interests, are often misaligned with why we do research. We investigate, explore, discuss and navigate — we do not delve deep into the why.
There are too many factors that influence the “right” approach or solutions widen the gap even further by not only failing to create a conducive environment to address these pertinent issues and allow us the breathing room to deliver solutions for the long-term.
We must ensure that they endure so they can overcome. The problem is bigger than us so we need to stop worrying about the superficial — it is bigger than everyone who thinks they have the answer. We all do.
A shift in our personal paradigm thinking needs to happen that embraces collaboration, blurring the lines of hierarchy, to band together to build universally applicable, real-world solutions to a very “broken economy and society”.
We need rails to build these shiny, sometimes smelly, tools for the future. What comes from the the sheer need to fuel a conscious, independent and accountable human for the future, decentralised ledger technology was developed.
We need to trust the system again and to make it so, we forced transparency, and most often when we are exposed, it sheds light on behavior (in all aspects) and only then, impactful change is realized.
Validation, security and the achievement of a consensus of “what exists and what has occured” takes place in an open platform, accessible to those who wish to be a part of it, everything transparent ,wherein each transaction is rooted in a smart contract. The environment thrives solely on the combined efforts of these individuals who continuously confirm parts of the blockchain, ensure the core of the system, that is, ironically, centralized on decentralized accountability, ensues.
The Cool Kids believe that by finding our own consensus within, we aim to establish a roadmap for the country wherein change is felt at all touchpoints, and more importantly, at the very core of the system. We have a responsibility to the universe to ensure that everyone is taken care of.
In its truest form, your stimulus package, may not just be the developing world’s Hail Mary, but is every other prayer that will ensure your life’s relevance in the new order of the future.
It is our shared belief as we embark on this journey, our development will only be effective if we remain agile, open and choose to find the voice of the people rather than continue to rest in a state of discord. Cooperative interaction between the academe, industries and public sector will find its own way into collaborations and partnerships.
There are a number of educational institutions that would share in our vision, understand the demands of the industries and more importantly, will remain progressive, ensuring the next generation leapfrogs and negates Web3.0’s predecessors and embraces it to its core.
Integration of blockchain education into the curriculum in several phases, pioneering the adoption of curricula focused on the demands of the emerging industry, and lastly, kickstarting the ecosystem, our global network of corporate evangelists. University partnerships complete the core that gives us the credence and life-long commitment to continue to drive this forward.
The impact of the blockchain is immense, but it would be temerarious to introduce products, services and applications to a market that is largely unbanked would be like giving birth premi.
We need to provide support for government to ensure the adaptability of regulations and policies, staging events across all touchpoint including regulatory hackathons, teaching + training. This allows policy makers to participate in what become compliance discussions, driven by the academe. Unless we turn this on its head, we will get bulldozed.
We believe that in order to redefine how society sees value, we must make things right and restore the status quo. We can start by improving (democratizing) access to basic services so we give everyone a chance at a better life.
